She will be posting various topics for us on body health from time to time. Below are her most frequently asked questions.
DO I REALLY NEED A MASSAGE?
I’m not hurt or in pain…. I don’t relax well…. I don’t need one right now…. These are some of the comments I hear from people who are not receiving regular massage. However, making time for regular massage therapy treatments can have wonderful benefits beyond providing relief from a severe injury or pain. It can help your body release stress and anxiety (and who isn’t suffering from that lately?) reduce insomnia, increase mobility, and sometimes just getting away from the world for some “me” time.
Receiving a massage can help with the day-to-day stresses. It can help us let go of issuses we have held on to or thought we had worked through but really suppressed how we felt. On a chemical level it is believed dopamine (some say the happy or enjoyment hormone) and seretonin (a mood hormone) levels rise while cortisol decreases. Cortisol is produced in the adrenal glands and when in a heighten state of fear, or even a stressful situation, these glands over produce this chemical. If someone is lacking in dopamine or serotonin it makes the body worked harder to relax or enjoy things the person might have before, like sleep. You then become more stressed making more cortisol resulting in a perpetual cycle. This is why receiving a monthly massage is more of a health choice than a Luxury.
Help your body repair itself before it falls into a cycle of stress.
