Today I have asked my Extensions Stylist, Lacey Grace, to guest blog. Extensions have become ubiquitous with movie stars and their hair. I asked Lacey to answer some basic questions about their care and our options regarding clip-in versus sewn in and she was excited to comply!
Clip in Hair Extensions are a great way to add volume and length to your hair. They are for all hair types and unlike many others, they do not cause damage to your natural hair. When choosing quality hair you want to make sure you are getting Remy hair. This means that all of the cuticles on the hair are laying down in the same direction. Also, make sure it is 100% human hair. The price point for Remy human hair is typically anywhere from $120 to $250 depending on how much hair you have and your desired length. You may want to schedule with a professional stylist to help you with color matching and blending of your extensions. Talking with your stylist is also a great way to get all of the tricks needed to style your new lucious locks. Today we will be sharing with you how to care for your extensions. Most companies say their extensions last 1-2 years. However, if you properly care for them they can last you much longer. I have had mine for 5 years. The hair usually arrives in a package containing 5-8 wefts. I don’t keep my extensions in the original packaging, I bought a $1 storage container that clasps shut, free from animals, children, dust, etc. You may want to wash them before wearing. Shampoo and condition your extensions with quality products, such as Organic Color Systems shampoos and conditioners. They are ph balanced and have a lovely scent. Lightly comb them out when they are wet and lay out until they are almost dry. I run my soft bristle round brush through them to make them pretty and polished. The soft bristles add beautiful natural shine. Finally, my favorite step is to use the Keragreen Argan and Olive Hair Oil to my extensions. It is important that you oil your extensions to keep them healthy and shiny, as this will help them to last longer, especially if you are curling and straightening them.
Clip ins and sew in hair extensions are very similar. You are using a weft of hair as the extension piece, and are attaching that weft to your hair. How they are attached is different. A Clip in hair extension is a weft of hair with pre-sewn clips attached. Clip in hair extensions are a great way to put them in and take them out as much as you want. If you are looking for a more permanent solution, I would suggest considering getting sewn in hair extensions. They are a great way to add volume and length and won’t require spending thousands of dollars. Like most other hair extensions, clip in & sew in extensions give you the peace of mind that NO damage will be caused to your natural hair because no heat, waxes, or glues are needed to attach the extension to your hair. They look beautiful and natural. It’s a win win!
You can find both Remy clip ins & Remy wefts at any beauty store or wig shop or online. The ladies(or gents!) at the counter will help you color match them to your hair, and also make sure to get the appropriate amount of hair. If you take care of your shiny new hair they will last you a long time and save you a lot of money and hassle!
